The beginning of 2018 found me in Tarifa, one of the southernmost parts of mainland Spain. It is located on the Costa de Luz (coast of light) and is less than 10 km across the strait of Gibraltar from the North African country of Morocco. We only spent two days here but I loved it. I am definitely returning on my own one day. We drove to the Playa Valdevaqueros – which my father in law tells me is means The Valley of the cowboys. Named after the fact that cattle would roam there. No cows when we arrived but sand dunes! These sand dunes rise up by more than 100m from the beach just to the north of Playa Valdevaqueros. The dunes are the result of sand being blown from the beach up the headland, burying all the vegetation and even the trees. I can’t tell you how much fun, how liberating it was to run up and then down those dunes. We were luck that it was not too windy and it was a clear sunny day.

Sand dunes are amazing! What a great adventure. Thanks for sharing these great photos, and thanks for joining the challenge!
