Treat

Not even half way through the month and I am down with my first infection! I finished work on Friday with a sore throat that seemed to be getting worse every mile I gained down the M1. By the time I got home I felt like my throat was on fire. In the grand scheme of things this is all pretty minor stuff. It is however very annoying as it has also been associated with a persistent listlessness and whole body aching that I have somehow succumbed to. As a result I have spent much of the day under the covers watching the Amazing Mrs Maisel, which is actually quite funny and thinking about how hungry I am but how it is rather painful to eat.

Last Sunday when I returned from holiday I was straight back into the kitchen baking. The first offering of the year were some fancy flapjacks aka date, seed and honey power bars. The recipe is taken from’Have you cake and eat it’ . It is a book I ordered from the book people last year and it is amazing and a source of some lovely healthy guilt free treats. These bars are made with oats, prunes, apricots, sultanas, almonds, dates, fennel seeds, linseeds and pumpkin seeds. They are delicious. I have managed to scoff down two bars a day. The first one I eat when I get to work and I’m looking through my emails and planning the day. The second gets eaten at four o’clock in the afternoon. My little treat for working so hard. They are all finished now and I am not sure if I am going to make another set for next week. It sure is tempting. I just need to shake of this drained feeling that has been following me about all day and I’ll be good to go.
